The Berlin Citiy Mission (Berliner Stadtmission) as our sponsor

Together we want to help those in need!

"Seek the welfare of the city and pray to the LORD on its behalf." Jeremia 29:7

Founders of the Berlin City Mission chose this verse from the Old Testament as their motto in 1877. Hence, for 130 years now this principle has been characterising the work of the Berlin City Mission which is closely interrelated with the city's history.

That is the Berlin City Mission's biblical guiding principle. A city's welfare is based on the well-being of its inhabitants. Therefore, the City Mission has been helping people in need since 1877.

To express the work of the City Mission in numbers: There are 17 communities of the City Mission, 42 diaconal institutions for senior citizens, people with disabilities, refugees and homeless people as well as 11 boarding houses & hotels. At the Berlin City Mission, there are about 750 full-time and circa 1,000 voluntary employees.

Being part of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia and of the "Diakonisches Werk (DWBO)", the Berlin City Mission is also an e. V. (= registered association) with several subsidiaries and thus legally independent.

Pastor Hans-Georg Filker has been head of the Berlin City Mission until 31 March 2015. After 25 years of inspiring leadership he passed the baton to former pastor of the German Kirchentag Joachim Lenz.

Berlin's City Mission is a member of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft evangelischer Stadtmissionen in Deutschland", of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Missionarische Dienste" and of the "Evangelischer Gnadauer Gemeinschaftsverband".

In 2002, the Berlin City Mission was offered for sale a built-up area at Lehrter Straße near Berlin Hauptbahnhof.

One of the mission's projects is called "Zentrum am Hauptbahnhof" with the aim to connect people from all kinds of (social) backgrounds, e. g. homeless people, residents, travellers or people working in and near the "Regierungsviertel" (government district).
